Software craftsman with 15+ years of commercial experience in backend, full-stack and cloud infrastructure. I care about well designed, well tested code and about getting things done - now faster, with frontier AI as part of my everyday toolkit.

Profile

I design and build software end to end: from Event Storming sessions with stakeholders, through architecture and implementation, to containerised deployments, CI/CD and cloud operations. My languages of choice are Dart, PHP, TypeScript, Go and Python.

I appreciate high quality code backed by automated tests, and I am not scared of legacy systems. A pragmatic, test-driven approach to refactoring has let me rewrite and migrate several of them. All code is legacy eventually.

I was an early adopter of AI coding assistants and work daily with models from OpenAI and Anthropic. They make me considerably more productive without lowering the bar on quality.

Beyond code, my strengths are communication, empathy and a positive, proactive attitude. I believe the best way to lead is by example, and the best way to motivate is by inspiration.

Areas of expertise

  • Software architecture

    Designing systems of many types, sizes and purposes. A big fan of Domain-Driven Design: I have run Event Storming sessions and built event-sourced systems on numerous occasions.

  • AI-assisted engineering

    Early adopter of LLM coding assistants, experienced with Gemini, GPT and Claude. I also build AI into products, such as pipelines that collect data and generate articles from it.

  • DevOps and cloud

    Containerised environments from development to production, CI/CD pipelines, Google Cloud and AWS, and billing optimisation. Certified Kubernetes Administrator.

  • Project leadership

    Laying out roadmaps and milestones, uncovering business requirements and priorities, producing estimates that hold up, and adapting plans in an always changing environment.

  • Communication

    Building stakeholder trust and healthy, productive relationships within the team. Soft skills are underrated in software, and I keep working on mine.

  • UX and UI

    Thinking about software as a whole product: identifying user needs, creating mobile and desktop mock-ups that follow platform standards, and working closely with designers.

    Publisher of school textbooks. Joined to lead the rewrite of Multipodręczniki, their flagship app for browsing textbooks with quizzes and videos, used by teachers and students. After more than ten years of development it was no longer maintainable.
